“Residents Warned of Phone Scam”
Wednesday, June 29, 2016
Elmira- The Chemung County Department of Social Services has been made aware of a fraudulent phone scam whereby at least one County resident received several unsolicited phone calls stating that their Medicaid needed to be recertified. They were then asked for personal information including their social security number and address. The individual was also told they could be arrested if they didn’t recertify with them over the phone. This is a scam and you should hang up immediately.
Residents are reminded to never give personal information over the phone especially if it is from an unsolicited caller.
