Two Arrested for Welfare Fraud

ELMIRA - On Tuesday, July 7, 2015, Amanda J Lederman and Donna L Lederman were arrested on active Elmira City Court warrants for Welfare Fraud 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 3rd and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree.

From September 2012 through February 2013, Amanda J Lederman and Donna L Lederman submitted false documents to the Chemung County Department of Social Services.  These documents were submitted for the purpose of establishing and maintaining her eligibility for public assistance.  These benefits included daycare assistance.

The Welfare Fraud Investigative Unit conducted an investigation into the submitted documents and claims.  Credible evidence of fraud was established.  Based on this fraud, Amanda J Lederman and Donna L Lederman received more than $5,000 in day care assistance they were not entitled to.  Based on this fraud, criminal charges were filed against both.

Welfare Fraud 3rd Degree is a class D felony, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree is a class D felony and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st is a class E felony.
