Compost Facility Opening for Season April 17


The Chemung County Compost Facility, located on Blostein  Blvd. in Horseheads, will be open to the public on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. The site is available free of charge for residents of Chemung County for the disposal of yard waste. 

Operating hours are:                 
Tuesday thru Friday 9 AM to3 PM (except holidays)
Saturdays 10 AM to 4 PM
** Closed on Mondays for processing of materials.

  •  Please have valid driver’s license or proof of residency to show the facility attendant.
  •  Material will be set aside for residents’ use. Do not take material not labeled for residents’ use.
  • Contractors and commercial enterprises cannot drop-off material at the facility.
NO SMOKING AND NO CHAINSAWS OR POWER EQUIP.

  • Tree limbs and branches
  •  Stumps
  • Leaves
  • Flowers and garden vegetation
  • Brush
  •  Hay

Items NOT Accepted

  • Fence posts
  • Concrete, asphalt, or bricks
  • Cinder blocks
  • Patio blocks
  • Rocks and boulders
  • Wood pallets
  • Wooden boards
  • Railroad ties
  • Dead animals
  • Food scraps
  • NO GARBAGE OR TRASH
