This work is in preparation for a full depth reclamation (FDR) of the sub-base, with 2 layers of chip seal to be added as the wearing surface in 2019. Please note 2020 work is slated to include FDR for the southern section of CR23. At that time, CR23 from CR60 to the northern end will be overlaid with hot-mix asphalt.
Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) projects involve a process of grinding and reclaiming the old road surface, adding new stone, injecting an asphalt emulsion and recompacting it in place to serve as a new sub-base.The roads are then overlaid with hot-mix asphalt or layers of chip seal (also known as oil and stone),
depending on the traffic volumes. This process adds 12-15 years of life with routine maintenance. Project schedules are weather dependent. Please drive carefully through work zones, and provide additional travel time to reach your destination.
