IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Effective April 1, 2026
Hours and Day Changes (Due to Inactivity):
Southport :  Closing on Wednesdays
Erin: Closing on Mondays
Lake Street: Will be Opening Up on Wednesdays

Effective May 1, 2026
Big Flats Drop Off will be closing permanently.   This is due to Safety Concerns at this site. This site is only 4.2 miles from the Lake Street Drop Off. We will be opening Lake Street on Wednesday to help offset this closure, and we will open early at Lake Street for disposal only at 7 AM.  

NEW DAYS AND HOURS:
EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2026 
Lake Street: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 7 AM to 4 PM;   Saturday 8 AM - Noon
Southport: Saturday, 8 AM - Noon
Erin: Saturday, 8 AM - Noon
Big Flats:  Monday, Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM and Saturday, 8 AM - Noon

EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2026
Big Flats: CLOSING

OPTIONS: 
1. Use Lake Street, 4.2 miles away, or other drop-offs. Opening up Lake Street for disposal only an hour earlier, Monday through Friday. 
2. Hire a local hauler to remove your trash and recycling at the curb in front of your home.

ATTENTION CUSTOMERS:
RECYCLING IS ONLY NO CHARGE FOR CHEMUNG COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF ID WHEN ASKED.  

OUT OF COUNTY, YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO DUMP YOUR RECYCLING HERE, BUT ONLY AT A $5 CHARGE PER 5-10 GALLON BIN. RECYCLING COST HAS CONTINUED TO RISE THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, SO WE CANNOT PROVIDE FREE RECYCLING TO ANYONE OUTSIDE OF CHEMUNG COUNTY.

Need to replace your blue recycling bin? Bins can be purchased at the Lake Street Transfer Station for $15.

The Chemung County Landfill is operated by Casella Waste Systems Inc.
