Chemung County Health Department Provides Information on Air Quality Advisory
The NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) recently released an advisory due to the concern for fine particles in the air in our County. In addition, an air quality alert from the NYSDEC is in effect until midnight tonight.
Exposure to fine particles may cause the following:
- Irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Runny nose and shortness of breath
- It may worsen medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease.
- People with heart or breathing problems, children, and the elderly may be more sensitive.
Some actions you can take:
- Going indoors may reduce exposure
- Avoid strenuous activities outdoors or wherever fine particle levels are high
