Eat Well Live Well program is offered at several locations throughout the county. This program provides a hot nutritious meal and an opportunity for participants to socialize. All our welcome to join us. There is no cost to people age 60 and over. A contribution of $3 per meal is suggested to help maintain services. No one is denied a meal for inability or unwillingness to pay. Guests under 60 may participate by paying the full cost of the meal, which is $5. Confused by Medicare? We have the answers! Certified health insurance (HIICAP) counselors from the Department of Aging will present Medicare 101 to employers and their employees, organizations, groups or clubs in Chemung County. The presentation will include Medicare enrollment periods, the four parts of Medicare, and how to decide what coverage is right for you. We will also discuss the transition from the Health Insurance Marketplace to Medicare and assistance for individuals with limited income and resources. We hope to help you gain a better understanding of the perplexing world of Medicare and to inform you about your decisions related to Medicare and other health insurance products.
If you are nearing retirement age or if you have caregiving responsiblities or aging parents, this presentation may be of great value to you. The presentation typically runs around two hours and can be customized to meet the needs of your group or organization.

Medicare Open Enrollment Starts October 15th!
Reminder: the annual Medicare Open Enrollment period starts October 15th and ends December 7th. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can review or change their Medicare prescription drug plans and Medicare private plans. The Department of Aging and Long Term Care has trained certified health insurance counselors available to meet with you. Due to such a high volume of clients, we will NOT be able to see you without an appointment. We strongly encourage you to call early and make an appointment for your insurance counseling. Healthy Living for Your Body and Brain - Thursday, October 17th
The Department of Aging and Long Term Care is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association, the Community Arts of Elmira and the Chemung Volunteer Action Corps to bring a free presentation on Health Living for Your Body and Brain on Thursday, October 17th, 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the Commuunity Arts of Elmira, 413 Lake Street, Elmira.
This program for the community centers on the connection between the health of the body and the brain. Presenters will use hands-on-tools to help you incorporation diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement into a plan for healthy aging. The program will include useful information, demonstrations on A Matter of Balance, Bone Builders and Tai Chi as well as Art Reflect exhibits. For more information, please call 737-5520. Veteran's Celebration - Wednesday November 13th - Honoring All Who Served
The Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care and the Town of Big Flats invites area seniors to join us for a lunch program in honor of all who served in war or peacetime in any of our armed forces.
Presentations by: Color Guard, Quilts of Valor, and Captain USAF Jon Bauer, who will share information on how the USAF provided Close Air Support to ground troops in the Vietnam War.
