The problems created by illegal drugs impact our community both directly and indirectly. Illegal drug use is responsible for increased health care, foster care and social service costs. Illegal drugs increase the rate of child abuse, domestic violence, sex crimes, burglary, larceny, assaults, gang violence, gun crimes, and driving while under the influence crimes. Illegal drug use not only destroys families but also undermines the physical and mental health of the substance abuser.
Due to the profound effect that illegal drug trafficking has on our community, those found selling, those found possessing with the intent to sell, and those found possessing large quantities of illegal drugs will face significant sentences in state prison.
