JOB OPENING

SENIOR CLERK: One (1) permanent position in the Department of Social Services, Children’s Integrated Services Division. CSEA Grade 6. Entry-Level Salary: B-1 Schedule-$16.85/hr.; B-2 Schedule-$14.73/hr.  

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a wide variety of clerical duties of more than average difficulty; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is important clerical work involving responsibility for independently performing the more difficult and varied clerical duties of the agency. The work requires a general understanding of specific law, office rules, procedures and policies. The work involves the exercise of independent judgment in the application of prescribed procedures and methods to routine cases. Unusual problems or situations, not previously encountered, are referred to supervisors before action is taken. For the most part work is performed under general supervision.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to write legibly; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others; ability to meet and deal with the public; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; good judgment; accuracy; neatness; tact; good physical condition.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Promotional: Candidates must be permanently employed in the Competitive class in the Chemung County Department of Human Services and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for 12 months as a Clerk or permanently employed in the Non-Competitive class in Chemung County Department of Human Services for 24 months as a Community Service Aide immediately preceding the date of the examination and must be, at the time of appointment from the resulting eligible list, employed by the Chemung County Department of Human Services.

Open Competitive: Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of clerical experience involving an exposure to the variety of clerical duties performed in a normal business office setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

REQUIREMENT:

    • Submission to FBI fingerprinting
    • Submission of new employee information through the E-Verify system to verify that the employee may be legally hired within the United States (USCIS Form I-9)
    • Passing of a Physical and Drug screen
    • Passing of a Child Abuse Clearance
    • SIU Check
