EARLY INTERVENTION WORKS

WHAT HELP IS AVAILABLE?
Services available for eligible children include developmental evaluations, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and special instruction. Assistance with equipment like hearing aids and visual supports may also be available.

WHAT CHILDREN NEED EARLY HELP?
To name a few, babies born too early or too small, sick newborns who spend time in NICU and infants who fail to thrive, may be at risk for developmental delays. These “at risk” children need regular contact with their doctor so developmental problems can be identified early. Our child find service helps assure that “at-risk” children have a primary physician and are covered by health insurance. We can also provide developmental screenings on request.

HOW ARE SERVICES PROVIDED?
All services are provided in your home or in the community (such as a relative’s home, child care center, etc.); places that are familiar and comfortable for you and your child.  Only qualified professionals, experienced in working with young children, and approved by the New York State Department of Health, provide early intervention services.

IS THERE ANY COST FOR SERVICES?
All Early Intervention services are provided at no cost to the family.
