Is Solar Right for You?

Is Buying into Solar Right for You?

Solarize Chemung is a community effort to help residents of Chemung County become educated on solar panels and solar energy systems. We host workshop-style events around Chemung County introducing solar as an energy option and letting interested residents ask questions to volunteers who have solar, or to our energy educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension.

While not everyone is able to put solar panels on their roofs, there are options for everyone to go solar today. Community solar, or sometimes known as “shared solar”, is a great way to expand access to solar energy for all. This model allows multiple people to take part in a solar array. That includes those who rent, live in a multi-unit building, or live in an area where your roof just doesn’t see enough sun.

A Community Solar project is a group of solar panels installed in a sunny location by a solar developer. Anyone in the area can access the clean energy produced by the panels and receive credits on their electric bill.
