Madison Avenue Bridge Work to Start on February 25th

Chemung County Information Technology Department will be adding communication cables to the Madison Avenue bridge staring Monday, February 25th. In order to complete work which provides necessary redundancy to the County’s communication network, one of the two northbound lanes on the bridge will be closed for two weeks. Please plan accordingly as delays should be expected.  As we transition from snow and ice conditions to construction, we ask motorists to use additional caution in work zones. All work is expected to be completed by Monday March 11th.

Additionally, the City of Elmira will be completing an extensive rehabilitation of the entire Madison Avenue bridge starting mid-March. During constrcution the bridge will be closed to all travel. Pedestrians will be detoured over the Lake Street bridge, vehicular traffic will be directed to use alternative routes. The bridge is expected to be reopened for traffic in July 2019
