Dear Family and Friends,
As always, I want to start by thanking you for your patience and understanding during these difficult times. I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the staff that have been coming to work every day to care for your loved ones. I truly admire their hard work and dedication! It is also important to let you know that at this time we have no confirmed cases.
I think it may be helpful to share with you some of the things we have been doing behind the scenes, proactively to ensure that we are keeping the virus out of the facility as well as be prepared in the event of a positive case. Specifically, we are screening ANYONE who enters the facility. This includes a questionnaire about travel, signs and symptoms, potential exposures, and a temperature check. We have developed a comprehensive COVID19 policy that incorporates Department of Health and CDC recommendations, which include a rigorous cleaning regimen, PPE competencies for all clinical staff, and several other interventions aimed at keeping everyone safe and healthy. With the guidance of our medical director, we have tested all residents who have exhibited upper respiratory symptoms while placing them on extra precautions. Those precautions remain in place until the facility receives a negative test result back. In addition, all hospital (re)admissions to the facility are also placed on isolation precautions for 14 days (unless the individual was tested for COVID19 and confirmed negative).
I know that many of you have taken advantage of our Skype and FaceTime capabilities and we will continue to utilize these services to keep you and your loved ones in contact. If you are interested in setting up a meeting, please reach out to Patty Mesko at pmesko@chemungcountynygov. The activities staff have worked very hard to ensure that our residents are staying busy with several activities as well as getting outside for fresh air when the weather permits.
As always, feel free to contact my office if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,Michael C. Youmans
