Aging & Long Term Care

Department Overview

Distinguished Volunteers of the Year 2026 Awards

Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care is seeking nominations for our annual celebration that recognizes volunteers who serve our community and improve the lives of all ages. This is an opportunity to showcase the many ways older adults can remain active and involved in their communities.

Distinguished Volunteers of the Year Awards will be presented to Chemung County residents, age 60 or older, for ongoing devotion of time and talent to make a great impact on others, without pay or compensation.  Nominees may volunteer in a variety of areas or concentrate on just one.  All qualified nominees will be recognized and honored during our Older Americans Month Celebration in May. Please see the attached nomination form for more information.

Nomination forms are also available at www.chemungcountyny.gov. Click on the Departments field and select Aging and Long Term Care.  Nomination forms are due by February 6, 2026.  If you have questions or need additional forms, please contact the Department of Aging and Long Term Care at 607-737-5520 or by emailing cmorton@chemungcountyny.gov

Thank you for helping us to identify and honor volunteers that make our community a great place to live and age well!

2025 Community Needs Assessment Survey

The 2025 Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care Community Needs Assessment Survey aims to assess various aspects of age-friendliness within our community, including transportation accessibility, housing options, social engagement opportunities, healthcare services, community safety, accessibility of public spaces, information and communication access, employment opportunities for older adults, interactions with local businesses, and suggestions for improvement.

Your participation in this survey will help us better understand the specific needs, challenges, and priorities of older adults in our community. By sharing your thoughts and experiences, you will contribute to the development of age-friendly initiatives that enhance quality of life, promote social inclusion, and support active aging for all residents.
